Special Needs Program
The Special Needs Program is an additional service to enhance existing services offered in the Children’s Mental Health Unit. This intervention and treatment program will target children who have physical, intellectual, and developmental delays and/or disabilities, and mental health disorders. Our staff provide one-to-one support services with activity-based counselling. We provide our clients assistance with funding applications, support letters, referrals to service providers and referrals for psychoeducation assessments.

Along with the above description, we provide brief services to community members who need resources around special needs. We often work to connect clients with supports such as Autism Ontario and Wesway Respite. Working with the CYMS Telepsych Program, we submit referrals for our clients to see Developmental Psychologists.
We provide our support in the community, home and school. Virtual visits are also available.
The Special Needs Program network with the schools in our area and work with special needs resource staff. Within that, we participate in student Independent Education Plan’s (IEP).
The Special Needs Program works in collaboration with the Coordinated Service Planning program from MaMouPimoTayTaa – Together We Walk at Mushkegowuk Council.
